It annoys me that developers aren’t forced to do this where possible. People would get used to seeing the turbines as people get used to seeing TV aerials and satellite dishes on houses. I realise that they probably wouldn’t be able to to supply enough power required, but even if they supplied 25-50% surely it would be worth it?
Does anyone know if the government has plans to force/encourage developers to do anything like this in the future?

Product Description
A wind turbine is a long term investment. Before you purchase a wind turbine, the first factor to consider is if the energy produced by a wind turbine can pay for itself in 10 years or less. The second factor to consider is installation and ownership cost. Poor reliability, low quality and high maintenance will greatly increase ownership cost and make the wind turbine impossible to pay for itself. The third factor is environment and safety. A wind turbine should be … More >>

I want to explore the feasibility for using wind power in my particular urban setting where one finds both reliably moderate-to-high wind speeds and a high need for electricity. The general question I need to answer is whether an inexpensive local solution can generate electricity inexpensively enough to compete on cost with electricity generated at remotely located wind farms. If so, the local solution could contribute some part to solving the problem of finding alternatives to fossil fuel. Even a 1% solution would be an important contribution, given the massive problem of global warming.
