market rates to encourage solar panel installation and further usage? On the 15th July 2009 the UK Government announced feed in tariffs for small wind turbines and photovoltaic solar panels: 36.5p/kWh for small solar photovoltaic systems up to 4kW, and 28p/kWh for systems up to 10kW. 23.0p/kWh for small wind turbines between 1.5kW and 15kW. OK – I hope things work out bloody full well for the program -just sometimes I become the frustrated scientist and well want to preach that more gains could be made in conservation and restaint and restructuring of living, and all processes than in the creation of More energy in any form. Then replace what is left in need with the alternative methods. Just always like to put the horse in the front and the cart in the back so to speak indeed instead of viceversa – Comp? b

Thanks Brewsterbud for your comment. However UK Gov has acted and the discounts are available, positive thinking gets results!

oh the answer is so simple – it is that there are Big guys and Small guys – the Big guys don’t do things that inhibit getting all of the Small guys money – simple as that – basic playground rules – don’t make it more complicated and don’t introduce reason into any energy or green issues – as long as there is money to be made by some Big guy – make sense? Does to me -

Great Q Cat. From my knowledge the problem is not so much money. The technology is there, the potential is there & money is there. But British planning laws R backwards. If u want to build a nuclear power station, central government decides if it’s ok. But if u want to build windmills, local govt decides! They often dispute it, its a lengthy appeal process & gigawatts of renewable electricity remain stuck in the planning system for years! Hence we produce less than 5% from renewables.

Good question, it is essential from the government to support private people to use more efficient energy sources.

RationalResponsive @ 9:16 am #

Solar electricity is passé. It’s all about wind turbines, baby!

jimofdeath @ 9:54 am #

Yeah, perhaps you should ask the companies, what companies do is not the PM’s concern.

logosen @ 10:14 am #

Good question :) feed-in tariffs are very common globally and make so much sense that their excuse will be very interesting to hear.

bolleh50 @ 10:58 am #

Maybe you should ask our electricity companies? :|

Blade376 @ 11:28 am #

Good question – There should be more incentive for people people to invest in such forms =]
