Are Electric Companies Required To Buy Back The Elec From Individual Home Wind Generators ?
I have a home made wind generator that charges batteries and an inverter to change it to house elc plus some solar panels. Some one told me they thought the elec companies are required to buy back any access elec I would generate. That would sure be a big help to me as I am on a fixed income. If anyone know this info and reference to where I can get the info so I am armed with it when I approach the elec company it would be greatly appreciated. Darlene

They are not required to, but some do. You’ll have to check with your local electric company to see if they offer that service.
Even in States where energy buy-back is required, YOU are required to synchronize voltage, frequency, and phase.
good news Coming soon in 2008: the mind boggling, unbelievable Perpetual Power Supply (PPS). The PPS uses no wind, solar, or known conventional fuels (gasoline, diesel, propane, and natural gas). PLUS–with it installed in your home or business, you will NEVER have to pay an electric bill again. In fact, the Electricity Service Provider (ESP) will have to send you a monthly check (it’s the law!) for excess electricity going back through your meter into their system.

In New York State, they are required to buy back. They do not pay the same price as you pay.
Required? Hell no. Can they and do they? Yes, fairly often actually. Just contact the electric company and ask them if they’d be willing to pay 80-90% of their cost per kW/h for any surplus electricity you generate with your turbine. Ask around and see if any of the local companies will pay to have the feed wire from the turbine to their plant installed. If you don’t have to, that’s a definite plus. ^_^ Good luck!
